News from the Boyer Lab

  1. The Boyer Lab made its presence known at the 2016 International Congress of Arachnology in Golden, Colorado! Jill Oberski and Kenji Shoemaker (left, both Macalester ’16) presented posters on their work, and Caitlin Baker ’12 (right), currently a PhD candidate at Harvard University, gave her first talk at a larger-than-regional meeting and was awarded one of the student prizes for her efforts.

  2. Macalester rising seniors Penny Kahn, Eva Larsen, and Raine Ikagawa are on the hunt for daddy long-legs out at Ordway in the picture at right (below). This summer they are working on a study of microhabitat use by these animals, as well as projects on mating behavior in collaboration with Kasey Fowler-Finn.

  3. Six new species of mite harvestmen from the Australian Wet Tropics!  Class of 2016 lab members Katya Jay (lead author), Michelle Coblens, and Jill Oberski got a paper out before graduation, published in the journal ZooKeys.  You can see their beautiful work here.

  4. Our new paper is out in the Journal of Biogeography!  This one has been in the works for many years, building on painstaking mapping and taxonomy by many members of the lab.  Caitlin Baker ’12 is a coauthor, along with our collaborators in Ken Kozak’s lab.
