The Human Brain

In the past two decades, neuroscientists, psychologists and other researchers have made huge strides in understanding the human brain. The implications of these findings are profound. For example, New York Times columnist David Brooks has argued that they are forcing society to renegotiate the "Morality Line, the spot where background forces stop and individual choice - and individual responsibility - begins" (4/19/2007). Looking to the future, The Economist has recently concluded that"neuroscience is one area where big concepts certainly remain to be discovered. And when they are, they are likely to upend humanity's understanding of itself" (December 19, 2006).

As a macroeconomist and economic historian, the recent reserach on the human brain has inspired me to teach a new course in Behavioral Economics. This page provides links to some of the more interesting videos and papers I have come across in the past year and it is my hope that they will inspire others to consider potential implications of this research. If you have any comments or suggestions, please feel free to send me an e-mail.
