Responsibilities

As Library Director, I am primarily responsible for managing the overall library operations, but in 2005 Media Services was added to my area of responsibility. The campus Director of Web Services, Sara Suelflow already reported through the Library. I report to the Provost. We have a Library, Media, Web Services advisory committee that meets during the academic year. In addition to overseeing Library, Media, and Web Services, I participate in providing library services by working a regular rotation at the reference desk and providing instruction for a limited number of courses. Iserve as liaison to American Studies, and the Humanities, Media, and Cultural Studies programs. I participate on the Collection Development working group, and chair the LMW Leadership Team. In addition to my campus responsibilities, Macalester is a member of the CLIC consortium and I serve on the CLIC Board.

As a member of the Oberlin Group, I coordinate the annual statistics collection for the 80 participating libraries. My involvement with statistics includes currently serving on the ACRL Statistics committee and I will become a member of the NCES ALS committee beginning in June 2008.

I am actively engaged in Scholarly Communication issues and our campus task force will become a campus committee during the 2008-09 academic year. See our website for more information on our campus program for scholarly communication. My interests in scholarly communication have led to my being selected to serve as a faculty member for the ACRL/ARL Institute on Scholarly Communication. I have a blog on Scholarly Communication.

My other blogs include the Library News and the Director's Blog.

Special Interests

Gardening is my recreational activity to relieve the stress of working with computers. The following links are my escapes when I need a break from computers that won't work, disk drive failures, and e-mail overload.

And, when I need just plain, totally unconditional affection, there's always...
Our dogs Jasper and Dudley.
