We Belong. I am not American. I am not any one thing really. I was born in Thailand and have lived in Switzerland, the Philippines, Kenya and Malaysia. My parents are from cultural /ethnic / national backgrounds that are vastly different from my largely Americanized experience here. Every time I go through the immigration checkpoint in a U.S. airport, I feel un-American, foreign and unwanted. But at Macalester I am not unwanted. We all belong here. This is the heart of Macalester's internationalism.
