Transition Process

We anticipate that it will take 18 months to transition all department and office web sites to the new design. Communications and Public Relations staff will work with each department to analyze web content, determine navigation and site structure, and produce new content as required.

The transition timeline was developed in consultation with Provost Kathy Murray and Vice President for Student Affairs Laurie Hamre. The process considered a variety of criteria including the size of the existing site, number of visitors, staff capacity to facilitate transition, and others. All dates are subject to change. If you have significant concerns with the transition plans please share these with the web team (email webmaster@macalester.edu) or your client manager in Communications.

In the table below, "Start date" indicates the projected date for the Communications team to begin working with each department to plan for the web site transition. For a typical project, allow about three weeks for content planning, three weeks for web team production work, and two weeks for site review and changes prior to launch. "Launch date" is the date that new pages go live. For most sites, the transition should be complete within six to eight weeks of the start date. Very small sites can be done more quickly; very large sites will take longer.
