Biology Seminar

Biology Seminar (BIOL489) is a 1-credit course offered both in the fall and spring. Enrollment is open to junior and senior biology majors. Two semesters of this course are required for the biology major. This course will be graded pass/fail.

NOTE: All meetings will take place in ORI250 unless noted otherwise.

GOALS OF THE BIOLOGY SEMINAR PROGRAM
1.    Provide opportunities for majors, and other interested persons on campus, to learn about current research in biology
2.    Help to prepare you for your next steps after Macalester by
a.    Exposing you to a variety of career possibilities
b.    Helping you prepare a resume
3.    Assist you in planning your Senior Presentation project

A PASSING GRADE REQUIRES:
1.    Regular attendance at seminars—you may miss up to 2 scheduled seminars; missing more than this will result in a failing grade.
2.    Written synopses of two off-campus seminars:
a.    Forms are available for downloading from Moodle.  The deadline for completed synopses is 5 p.m. December 5, 2008.
b.    The Biology department website has links to a number scheduled seminars at the University of Minnesota.
3.    For seniors, completion of paperwork related to the Senior Presentation and attendance at the fall luncheon on Tuesday, December 2 in the Weyerhaeuser Board Room.
