Professor Overvoorde is a plant molecular biologist with teaching and research interests in cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, and genome biology.  Having joined the Biology department in the spring of 2002, he is in the process of establishing a research program that focuses on understanding how plant cells perceive and respond to the plant hormone auxin.  He recently received two grants: a major instrumentation award from the NSF for molecular biology equipment that will be used widely for research in the department and a grant from the USDA for support of his research.

Current Courses:
BIOL265 Cell Biology
BIOL353 Advanced Genetics
BIOL 489 Biology Seminar

Education:
BA Calvin College, 1990
PhD Washington State University, 1995
post-doc University of California Berkeley, USDA Plant Gene Expression Center

Research Interests:
Gene expression in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana
