The primary responsibilities of the Academic Programs Office
focus on

Provost's
Office in managing the academic side of the college. Our work with
students
includes mailing Registration Guidebooks to incoming students and
registering
new students for First Year Courses; processing change of adviser
forms;
working with students applying for major scholarships such as Watson
Fellowships,
Fulbright Scholarships, Truman Scholarships, etc.; administering summer
research programs such as the Mellon-Mays Undergraduate Fellowship
Program; reviewing learning
contracts for students doing preceptorships for academic credit or
summer
independent projects; offering language placement tests and other
assistance
to students relating to the second language proficiency requirement;
and
reviewing student academic records to assure that students are making
progress
towards graduation, and working with students on academic probation. We
provide academic records, audits and grades to faculty advisers. We
work
with academic departments on such things as the Honors Program for
seniors
and the Honors Convocation where departmental prizes are awarded.
Together
with the Provost's Office we administer a speakers fund that supports
major
college speakers as well as speakers in individual classes.
We share office space in Weyerhaeuser 215 with:
Associate Provost's Office
Dan Balik, Associate Provost
Brenda Piatz, Program Assistant
The Associate Provost's Office works primarily with faculty
development.
This is the office where faculty members obtain reimbursements out of
their
travel and research accounts and apply for such things as supplemental
research
funds, Wallace research and travel grants, sabbatical leaves, etc. This
is also the office that administers the Leonard Fund, which supports
out
of class interaction between students and faculty by providing meals
for
classes or other small groups of students in faculty homes. Other
responsibilities
of the Associate Provost's Office include assisting with New Faculty
Orientation,
assisting the Faculty Personnel Committee with pre-tenure, tenure and
promotion
reviews of faculty, and working with the Resources and Planning
Comittee.
