The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures Spring Seminar featured Laura Miller, Professor of Japanese Studies and Professor of Anthropology at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Her talk was titled: Japan’s Unmarketable Girl Cool: A Critique of Global Otaku Obsession. On February 17, the Department hosted: What Can You Do With a Major in Asian Studies, Chinese, or Japanese? Faculty and alumni from Asian Studies, Chinese and Japanese, discussed what you can do with a major in these fields at Macalester and beyond. About 35 students attended, and they viewed powerpoint presentations from alum who are living and working in China and Japan, plus a visit from an alum attending grad school.On February 17, the Department hosted: What Can You Do With a Major in Asian Studies, Chinese, or Japanese?
