Plant physiology and molecular genetics
Professor Overvoorde contributes expertise in plant molecular biology and maintains teaching and research interests in cell and molecular biology, chemical biology, genetics, genome biology, and plant physiology. His research program focuses on elucidating how plant cells perceive and respond to the plant hormone auxin. Grants from the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the University of Ghent (Belgium) have funded this work. He has served as the Program Director of a $1.3M award to Macalester from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute as well as Directing the Jan Serie Center for Scholarship and Teaching. This fall he is in Tanzania Directing the Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM) study abroad program and will be on sabbatical in the spring of 2016.
