Mac Bio majors have many opportunities to engage in research. Some students conduct independent research projects while studying abroad. Because Mac’s Bio faculty members are so active in research themselves, students have many opportunities to collaborate with them, including both during the summer and the academic year. Support from the college and from grants to individual faculty members provides summer research stipends to more than fifteen students, enabling them to work with faculty on research projects in areas such as immunology, neurobiology, aquatic ecology, terrestrial ecology, paleobiology, evolution, molecular genetics, and biochemistry. Many students conduct their own independent project as part of their collaborative research and use this research as the basis for their senior capstone project.
