David Lanegran loves to teach geography, explore the cities of the world and rural Minnesota. He is especially fond of local beers and the Nonya cuisine of Singapore.

»» Lanegran Receives Award from the Association of American Geographers

Geography Professor David Lanegran, recognized for devoting "a large measure of his distinguished career to the advancement of geographic education and for his work," has received the Association of American Geographers' (AAG) Gilbert Grosvenor Honors for Geographic Education award.

The AAG citation went on to say Lanegran has, for the past 40 years, "pioneered, participated in, and shaped every significant movement in geography education at both K-12 and university levels."

Lanegran will accept the honor in April 2010 in Washington, D.C.

»» In April of 2000, David Lanegran gave his inaugural lecture as John S. Holl Professor of Geography. The lecture was entitled "New Urban Landscapes in the Post Apartheid Cities of South Africa." He discussed the efforts of the new South African government to resolve housing issues created by 50 years of apartheid city planning. Details»
