Helen Hazen is an environmental and health geographer, and is currently a research scholar at Macalester College. Her research interests revolve around the diversity of ways that humans interact with their environment and have focused to date on infectious disease and conservation of the natural environment. Her most recent project expands this interest to consider the role of the social environment on human health by looking at the politics of places of birth. Her teaching includes a wide variety of introductory courses (including human geography, population geography, and regional courses on Latin America and Oceania) as well as more specialized courses focused on the geography of health and natural hazards.
