Mahajanga Basin Project

For well over a decade I have worked in the Upper Cretaceous strata of Madagascar, within the confines of the Mahajanga Basin (map). My efforts are focused on the Maevarano Formation and associated units in the central part of the basin. As the project geologist and taphonomist, I work to (1) resolve the basic lithostratigraphy in the basin, (2) decipher the age of the rocks, and (3) reconstruct depositional environments and paleoclimate. I also study the taphonomy of the amazing fossils preserved in the basin. This research has been generously supported by the National Science Foundation, the National Geographic Society, and Macalester College.
