Macalester Early Music Ensemble

Vocalists and instrumentalists interested in historical performance are invited to join the Macalester Early Music Ensemble. Directed by Brazilian recorder player Cléa Galhano, the group focuses on Renaissance and Baroque repertory.

Ensemble members make use of Macalester’s large collection of viols, recorders, crumhorns, kortholts, flutes, harpsichord, psaltry, rebec, cornetto, sacbut, and a variety of percussion instruments. (Private instruction on several of the instruments is also offered through the music department.)

The group rehearses for 90 minutes each week (schedule to be determined by members’ availability) and gives a concert each semester.
