The Macalester Summer Physics Institute offers a full-year credit, algebra-based college physics course with laboratory, suitable for pre-med requirments. A limited number of on-campus housing contracts are available.
The Institute is run by Professor Sung Kyu Kim, who has taught summer physics at Macalester for more than 20 years, in addition to his duties as professor of physics during the regular academic year.
The 2013 Institute will run over two four-week semesters from May 28th - July 19th, 2013.
Course descriptions from the Macalester College Catalog:
221 INTRODUCTORY PHYSICS I (May 28th - June 21st)
Mechanics, heat and sound, including laboratory experiments and extensive demonstrations. Daily lectures and help sessions, three two hour laboratories per week. Summer Physics Institute only. (4 credits)
222 INTRODUCTORY PHYSICS II (June 24th - July 19th)
Electricity and magnetism, light and optics, modern physics, including laboratory expenments and extensive demonstrations Daily lectures and help sessions, three two-hour laboratories per week. Summer Physics Institute only. (4 credits)
