Treatments

Due to the fact that schizophrenia is a disease with unknown causes and a variety of symptoms, it is no surprise that there are a number of ways in which the schizophrenic patient can be treated.  The Drug section talks about the various medications that are given to schizophrenic patients.  There are a large number of these, each with various benefits and side effects.  Medicines are often unable to relieve the patient of all of his or her symptoms.  In fact, the side effects are sometimes very devastating.  Thus, there are a variety of Non-Drug treatments.  These range from individual therapy to family therapy to group housing.  The idea for treating the schizophrenic patient is to make them feel like useful and capable members of society.
