After thirty years as the director of the Dance Program, Becky Heist in her new part-time role, remains active in the department through mentoring, teaching and choreographing. She teaches four levels of modern dance technique, dance composition and dance film. Her interest in creating dance films has recently led to a summer research collaboration with a student in theatre and dance entitled Unforgiving Air of Reality. Heist remains active in the Twin Cities dance community as a grants panel participant and performer.

Rendered Obsolete, a trio for students and faculty, drawing upon the talent and tragic lives           of women in the entertainment industry, 2011.
Open Throat, Inner Cells, a solo inspired by the wilds of Ireland, 2010.
Janis, set to Janis Joplin’s inimitable singing, 2008.


Klatch, a documentary that reveals the passion for dance in performers over the age of fifty, 2013.

Decorah Boys, a dance film featuring four precocious boys, 2012.

Terrain, a dance film created in five outdoor settings encompassing the Ayurvedic elements, screened in the Sans Souci Festival of Dance Cinema, 2011.
