I'm Helen Warren, a professional grant writer here at Macalester.
Like you, I write to impress very intelligent and highly critical readers.
And in those high-stakes situations, sometimes I'm writing along and suddenly I don't know what to say next.
And pretty soon I've come to a full stop, I'm stuck.
When I get stuck I remember that I'm stuck for a reason:
getting stuck is where you really think about what you want to say and why it's important to say it.
When I'm stuck I also think about the people I'm trying to influence
and when I can think of them as people interested in what I have to say, that's a first step in getting unstuck.
So, I get stuck. And I trust myself to get unstuck. So far, so good.
So get stuck to write well.
