Hi, I'm Jim von Geldern from Russian and International Studies
and what I'm going to tell you today about writing is incredibly important.
Now, I might have just grabbed your attention by stressing how important it is,
or if you were paying attention you might have turned it off
because I've told you what I'm going to say is incredible and is not believable.
Superlatives can do that to you.
You think that you're drawing your reader in by using a phrase like "awesome," "horrible," "extremely."
What you might be doing is alerting them that you don't have a very good vocabulary
and that you don't know how to us a thesaurus.
So, avoid using superlatives whenever you can.
Use them very sparingly, or best yet use them parsimoniously.
Good luck and write well.
