Application and Application Fee
Macalester uses the Common Application
Submit Macalester Part 1 or the Common Application by November 15 and the $40 application fee will be waived. If you miss the November 15 deadline, and are eligible to receive a fee waiver based on financial hardship, indicate so when you complete your Common Application.
Your Application Portal
Use your Macalester Application Portal to learn what has been received and what is missing. You will be sent a username and password soon after the Common Application has been received.
Two Academic Evaluators (Professor/HS Teacher Recommendations)
Request the Academic Evaluator Recommendations via the Common Application online process. Reports will be accepted from core academic subjects (English, social studies, foreign language, mathematics or science). One report must be from a college professor, the other may be either a college professor or high school teacher. If you have been out of college for more than one academic year and have difficulty obtaining an academic report, contact the coordinator for transfer admissions at Macalester to explain your situation.*
Transfer Mid-Term Report
Print the form from the Common Application website, take the form to each instructor with whom you have a spring term class, and ask the instructor to provide a mid-term progress grade for his or her class. Once you have completed the form, submit it by uploading it through the application portal. If you prefer, you may submit it as an attachment to an email to email@example.com.
The Common Application will prompt you to download the form once you begin your application to Macalester. Be sure to use the Dean of Students or registrar at your current or most recent college and give her/him ample time to complete the form prior to the application deadline.*
You must have an official transcript of all college-level coursework sent to Macalester directly from the school or via an official online transcript service. A transcript issued to the student is not considered official. You must have transcripts sent from all colleges you have attended.
Final High School Transcript
Request that your secondary school send Macalester an official final transcript of your classes and transcript grades beginning with 9th grade. If you attended more than one high school, check to make sure all years are included on the most recent transcript.
*The counselor and teachers will be prompted to complete their portion of these forms online via the Common Application process. If your counselor and/or teachers prefer to mail your school report, midyear report, transcript and/or teacher recommendations, they can be mailed to Macalester College, Admissions Office, 1600 Grand Avenue, St. Paul, Minnesota 55105-9984.
Official SAT or ACT Test Scores
Take one of the following tests and have the score sent to Macalester.
Macalester's identification codes are: SAT (6390) and ACT (2122).
Transfer of Credits
Macalester will accept for credit no more than the equivalent of two years (sixty-four credit hours) from courses earned at a college or university prior to matriculation at Macalester. For more information, refer to the college catalog or call the Registrar's Office at (651)696-6200.
Students who have made a substantial commitment to the arts (in the areas of Fine Arts, Music, Theater or Dance) are welcome to submit samples via the Macalester Application Portal. Information to access the portal is provided after submitting your application.
If you wish to be considered for financial aid, you must indicate your interest when you apply via the Common Application. For more information, visit the Financial Aid website.
