Completing Your Application

Macalester uses the Common Application for Transfer Students. You can apply online, or you can apply by downloading PDFs of the forms, completing them, and mailing them to our Admissions Office (1600 Grand Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55105-1899).

Required Forms and Test Scores

Note: all forms are available via the apply links above.

  • Transfer Application
  • Macalester Supplement
  • Instructor Evaluations
    Complete the top portion of two Instructor Evaluation forms and ask two faculty members of core academic subjects (English, social studies, foreign language, mathematics or science) to complete and send them to Macalester. If you have been out of college for more than one academic year and have difficulty obtaining an academic recommendation, contact the coordinator for transfer admissions at Macalester to explain your situation.
  • College Official's Form
    Fill in the top portion of this form and give it to the Dean of Students at your current or most recent college to complete and mail to Macalester. Be sure to give her/him ample time to complete the form prior to the application deadline.
  • College/University Transcript(s)
    You must have an official transcript of all college-level coursework sent to Macalester. A transcript issued to the student is not considered official. You must have transcripts sent from all colleges you have attended.
  • Secondary School Transcript
    Request that your secondary school send Macalester an official final transcript of your classes and transcript grades beginning with 9th grade. If you attended more than one high school, check to make sure all years are included on the most recent transcript.
  • Official Test Scores
    You must request that scores from either the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT I) or the American College Test (ACT) be sent to Macalester College unless test scores are included on your high school transcript. Results from SAT II subject tests are not required, but will be considered if submitted. Macalester’s identification codes are: SAT (6390) and ACT (2122). Students whose primary language is not English must also submit the results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

Application Fee

Submit the $40 fee or the fee-waiver request form found on the College Board website (see apply links above).

Use this status page to learn what has been received and what is missing. You will be sent a username and password soon after the Common Application has been received.

You may have your transcripts evaluated by the Macalester Registrar’s Office for the transfer of course credits. This evaluation is only preliminary, but is complete enough to be helpful in planning for transfer.

All candidates for a Macalester College degree must successfully complete at least four semesters on the Macalester campus.

Transfer of Credits

Macalester will accept for credit no more than the equivalent of two years (sixty-four credit hours) from courses earned at a college or university prior to matriculation at Macalester.
