What should I bring?
You will want to bring a sleeping bag, pillow, towel, and any other personal items. Please dress comfortably; your stay at Macalester will be busy!
What should I expect?
A Macalester student has volunteered to help welcome you to our campus and provide you with a place to sleep. Your host looks forward to introducing you to Macalester. However, he/she may have other commitments or obligations (papers to write, sports, play rehearsal, etc.), so be adventurous during your stay at Mac. Introduce yourself to a variety of students and have fun exploring our community. Rest assured - there's never a shortage of activity at Macalester and we're excited to have you on our campus.
When will I meet my host?
Following Sampler registration and the welcome, you will meet your student host at a dinner on Thursday evening. You'll get to know your host over an informal buffet and you'll also have the chance to meet other visiting admitted students and their hosts.
What if I am arriving late for my overnight stay?
We will make sure you meet up with your host, no matter what time you plan to arrive on campus. If you plan to arrive after 5 pm, we would like to be able to tell your host what time he/she can expect you. Please call our Admissions office in advance to tell us the time of your expected arrival to campus if you are arriving after 5 pm. Please go to the Admissions Office if you arrive between 5 and 8 pm, and to the Information Desk on the first floor of the Campus Center if you arrive after 8 pm.
What if I am staying with a friend on campus and don't need the Admissions Office to assign a host to me?
If you will be staying on campus with a friend, please call the Admissions Office in advance and let us know the name of the person who will be hosting you. Please make your own arrangements to meet your friend but know that you are welcome to join us for the Thursday evening dinner when the rest of our visiting students will be meeting their assigned hosts.
How can my parents reach me on Thursday evening?
We will mail emergency contact information to all families along with a confirmation letter once we have received your registration request for a Spring Sampler. An Admissions Officer will be on call throughout the overnight stay.
