cold but beautiful
application bonanza

by Laurel

Last weekend I spent a grand total of $10 in my transit from Macalester to Chicago and back. Yes, I spent $1 each way to travel between Minneapolis and Chicago thanks to "Megabus," a company based out of Chicago that boasts rates as low as $1 for customers who order early enough. (We ordered at midnight the day the new tickets came out to ensure the low price.) I then spent about $2 to get from St. Paul to Minneapolis, $4 total to move about Chicago, and another $2 to get back to St. Paul from Minneapolis. I've never been such a fan of public transit in my life.

Public transit not only makes it easier to travel around the Twin Cities, but as I just illustrated, to travel nearly anywhere. And, as cliché as it may sound, it's pretty much only possible because I'm at school in the city. Now that I've finally become acclimated completely to Macalester, I'm hoping to explore St. Paul and Minneapolis more this semester, being the beautiful cities they are. I'm happily surprised every time I venture out to notice how environmentally friendly and "smart" the cities are, mostly thanks to the cities' great public transit (Metro Transit). In particular, this semester I'm hoping to explore the Minneapolis Center for Book Arts and the Minneapolis Public Library.

I remember about this time last year being a "mail nazi" and raiding the mailbox, hopeful for college letters. But don't worry, that's what everyone is doing...and the letters will come soon enough. In fact, you'll hear from Mac by the end of March. Love is in the air!
