Things to Know and Do

  1. Mac professors love to teach. They mentor, encourage, assist, inspire and challenge students to do great things.
  2. The comprehensive fee to attend Macalester covers 75% of the college’s annual expenditures. The other 25% comes from the endowment and gifts to the college.
  3. Students find amazing opportunities and connections at Mac. Before graduating they gain real-world skills at Fortune 500 companies, nonprofits, government agencies, law firms, hospitals, research centers, finance firms and more.

    Macalester founded
  • 1946
    Yahya Armajani, a historian from Teheran, joins the faculty
  • 1949
    International relations major created
  • 1950
    United Nation’s flag first flown at Mac, has been flying ever since.

    International Center opens
  • 1980’s
    Macalester among the first U.S. colleges to enroll United World College students

    Kofi Annan, Mac graduate of 1961, becomes Secretary-General of the United Nations
