At Yonsei University (which amazingly sat at the base of a mountain in the heart of Seoul) I was able to take various courses about Korean history and international relations. I traveled to Thailand, Jeju-do (the ?Korean Hawaiian Island?) and all over Korea during my four-month stay. I loved Korea because of how accessible the city was by subway, the great shopping, how amazing the food was everywhere and how socially orientated life was in Seoul. Every time I went out I ended up participating in some festival, celebration or event that was constantly happening downtown. Watching Korea?s last World Cup game at 4 am with millions of people the night before I flew home was the greatest farewell to my semester and one of the highlights of my trip.

I studies at Russia's top theatrical institution, the Moscow Art Theater, wth one objective: to bet better. "Don't worry, " they told me upon my arrival, "this is Russia, we'll break you anyway." They did, and it could not have more enjoyable.

Talking Turkey

Every other January the Classics Department offers an international study-abroad opportunity for Macalester students. In 2006 the destination was Turkey. Led by classics faculty members Andy Overman and Nanette Goldman, 30 students and two additional faculty members explored Istanbul, Troy, Ephesus and other sites on the Aegean Coast.
