The music building is my favorite
place on campus—there
is always an available practice
room, the furniture is
Macalester’s most comfortable,
and the lobby is a great place
to talk with friends. Whether
I’m going to rehearse or just
looking for a place to study,
the music building is my first
choice.

The classic fiction room on the
library’s first floor is my favorite
place on campus. The chairs
are cozy and right next to the
windows, so I can look out
across campus and consider the
weather or the people walking
about. It’s perfect for reading
or just daydreaming for a while.

Café Mac. Mealtime is a break
from class and studying, a
chance to chill with your friends
without feeling guilty about
other things you should be
doing. It can be intellectually
stimulating, absolutely ridiculous,
or both at the same time.
Different groups end up eating
together and new friendships
are formed; not to mention that
there is all the food you can eat.

My favorite place, by far, is the
Olin-Rice Science Center and
not just because I’m in love
with computer science! There
is great diversity there—math,
psychology, environmental
studies, geology majors, and
more all under the same roof.
And within Olin-Rice? It’s the
study space right in front of the
giant Foucault pendulum. I love
to sit there and watch the pendulum
swing again and again.

I love to study in the Campus
Center, specifically upstairs,
because I can be productive
while also feeling connected to
campus. Plus there are really
great chairs. It’s the perfect
place to meet for group
projects or to study alone.

My favorite place would have
to be the Cultural House—also
known as “C-House.” From the
living room’s plush, inviting
couches, twinkling lights, and
current issues of magazines like
Audrey, Essence, and Latina
to the long dining table and
bright, large kitchen, the space
is always warm and inviting. I
have attended student organization
meetings there, as well
as cook-and-eat dinner parties,
tea parties, and thought-provoking
discussions.

My favorite spot around campus
is Dunn Bros coffee shop
on Grand Avenue, less than
a block from campus. It has a
very nice atmosphere and the
baristas make one of the best
cappuccinos in town. I will often
go there in the evenings telling
myself I will do my homework,
but most of the time I will end
up listening to the music or
talking to friends.
