Cora Polsgrove '08 is a senior anthropology and sociology major from Bloomington, Indiana. She has worked on an eclectic array of video projects over the years, including "24 Hour Shift," a documentary about St. Paul firefighters for the Macalester Documentary Project, and "Soundtrack", a comedic short film that will be featured in the Macalester Student Film Festival this spring. In June 2006, she was a documentary intern at Appalshop, a non-profit media organization in Appalachia. This spring she is interning at the Saint Paul Neighborhood Network (SPNN), looking for a fun, film-related, post-Macalester job, and savoring her last semester of Cafe Mac (and Macalester).
Jenny Grinblo '11 is an international freshman, hailing from Russia and Israel. She started making short videos and films as a hobby, mainly as presents for friends and family. Starting the age of 14, Jenny has worked as a freelance graphic and web designer and has taken digital photos (mainly of children) for various clients. In the summer of 2007, Jenny traveled to Kenya to embark on an independent photography project in the north and coastal regions.
Tim Bates '06 (left) was a geography major with a minor
in Hispanic Studies. He started his filming career in high
school, making two short documentaries for a national competition...
and got two trips to Washington, D.C. out of them! At Mac,
he took advantage of the cross-registration option with the
Minneapolis College of Art and Design and took a film making
course. He worked for Admissions for three years on web features,
beginning his sophomore year. After graduating,
Tim worked for National Geographic as a researcher
in the Maps Division and is now with an urban planning group in San Francisco.
Matt Ecklund (above right) first began editing at age nine at his local
community arts center. Since then, he has made five short
films, which received high acclaim at local film festivals
in his home state of Minnesota. For his senior project in
high school, Matt teamed up with three fellow students to
write, direct, and produce a modern adaptation of Samuel Taylor
Coleridge's epic poem Rime of the Ancient Mariner. He also
co-taught a class on media skills in editing, film-making,
and photo manipulation for three years at the very place that
sparked his interest in the medium.
Andrew Judd is from Portland, Oregon.
He is a psychology major with media studies and studio art
minors. While at Macaletser, Andrew has acted as preceptor
for video production classes and worked on a video project
for the Saint Paul school district. He also spent a semester
studying audiovisual arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy of
Art and Design in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
