Macalester's Alumni Association is governed by a Board of Directors commonly known as the Alumni Board. The board works with the Alumni Relations office to foster lifelong relationships between Macalester College and its students and alumni.
Alumni Board Composition
The Alumni Board is comprised of 35 members and includes five students. Board members serve for three-year terms and students may serve for the duration of their time as students.
Nominations & Elections
Candidates for the Alumni Board are nominated by alumni and others. These nominations are reviewed by the Nominations, Citations and Bylaws Committee which then recommends nominees to the whole Alumni Board for election at its final meeting of the year.
While many worthy candidates are identified, only a few are elected each year to replace those Board members who are leaving the Board. In these elections, the Alumni Board seeks to maintain an balanced sampling of men and women, class years and geographic locations.
Organization and Method of Operation
The Executive Committee — the Alumni Board's president, vice-president and secretary — is responsible for the operation of the Alumni Board. Each of these officers is elected by the Alumni Board to serve a two-year term. The Board conducts its work through standing committees focused on Student Support, Alumni Support, Development, Multicultural Issues and Nominations, Citations and Bylaws as well as temporary task forces as needed. The board meets at least twice a year.
