Panelist Bios - Heather Cox ’96
Director of Volunteers at the Science Museum of Minnesota
Heather works as the director of volunteers at the Science Museum of Minnesota (website). She has focused her professional work on civic engagement through community volunteerism, serving as part of the Volunteer Resources Team at Catholic Charities (website), the education and training manager for Hmong American Partnership (website) and the statewide volunteer outreach coordinator for the Minnesota Literacy Council. She co-founded and co-directed a new adult literacy organization, Foundation for Immigrant Resources and Education (FIRE) (website), which recently achieved its nonprofit status in March 2007. Heather holds a bachelor’s degree from Macalester College in Communications. She holds mini-MBAs in Nonprofit Management and Volunteer Management from the Center for Nonprofit Management and is a leadership fellow with the James P. Shannon Leadership Institute (website). She has lived and traveled in over 30 different countries and considers herself to be a citizen of the world, which includes an active commitment to global volunteerism.
