Since graduating from Macalester 60 years ago, John Ring '51 has worked tirelessly to stay in touch with his classmates. He has served on Reunion planning committees and the Alumni Board, volunteered at Annual Fund phonathons, and serves as a Class Agent. For years, John has called and connected with every member of his class. For his ongoing dedication, John Ring is February's Macbassador of the Month.

John enjoys reminiscing with his classmates about their Macalester experiences. One common theme in these conversations is the strong relationships his classmates developed with their professors. "My classmates were no-nonsense learners and quickly took to the student-faculty mentor relationship," he says. John says these positive relationships drive his classmates' willingness to support the college and talk to him whenever he calls. That enthusiasm feeds his own desire to stay connected.

John credits his classmates for their strong ties to each other and the college. "At our age, we're not young chickens," he says. "We've experienced enough to know a good thing." For John, volunteering to support Mac by reaching out to all of his classmates every year is rewarding and fun.
