Susan Perry '83, a former nonprofit worker who is now a Chicago city planner, enjoys being generous with her time to support her favorite nonprofits.

For Macalester, she has helped organize alumni activities in the Windy City since the late ’80s and has served as co-leader of the Chicago alumni chapter since 2003. Alumni get-togethers there tend to be less about going to happy hour and more about being active: They've visited art museums, packed groceries at the Greater Chicago Food Depository, and enjoyed outdoor concerts together.

Susan, a regular supporter of the Annual Fund since 1984, is also in her second three-year term on the Alumni Board. She served as its vice president from 2010 to 2012. She also has served on Reunion committees for her class.

Susan tells her fellow event planners the most important thing is to keep putting on events and inviting alumni to participate. She says, "People are busy and have different tastes. The important thing is that you volunteered to organize it, you did it, and you showed up."
