In recognition of his ongoing support of student entrepreneurship at Macalester, Seth Levine '94 is our February Macbassador of the Month.
Levine, who majored in psychology and economics, is the managing partner and co-founder of Foundry Group, a Boulder-based early stage venture capital firm. "My experience at Macalester," he says, "served as an unbelievably strong foundation for the rest of my life."
Levine is co-sponsor and co-creator of Macathon, Macalester's technology "hackathon" and start-up competition which is being held for the second time Feb. 28-March 1. He recently came to campus to speak at the Career Development Center and at the Entrepreneurship class taught by Professor Joyce Minor '88 about the democratization of entrepeneurship and entrepreneurship as a compelling force for change in the world. His visit inspired Petar Petrovic '14 to start an entrepreneurship student organization on campus that already has 37 members.
"Mac instilled in me a spirit of service and I've always tried to live the philosophy of 'giving first,'" Seth says. "Inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs at Mac will hopefully instill in them the notion that they're playing a non zero-sum game and that they should look for opportunities in business and in life to give, not just get."
Seth is also a loyal financial contributor, supporting excellence at Macalester through his gifts to the Annual Fund as a Tartan and Summit Society member.
