MACALESTER RATED
ONE OF THE BEST NATIONALLY
The Newsweek/Kaplan College Guide, the New York Times, U.S. News and the Princeton Review all agree about something we’ve always known: Macalester is simply one of the best.
In the past few weeks, the 2007 Newsweek/Kaplan “How to Get Into College Guide” has named Macalester one of “America's 25 New Elite 'Ivies;’” The New York Times listed Macalester in a special education issue as one of 20 “Hidden Gems…Off the Beaten Path;” and U.S. News & World Report ranked Macalester 24th, tied with Mount Holyoke and up one from last year, citing a dramatic improvement in alumni giving for the third year in a row.
The rate of alumni giving moved from 42 to 45 percent, and the national ranking in that category is now 30th, up from 43rd. This category is based the average percentage of alumni who gave to their school during 2003–04 and 2004–05.
Under "Economic Diversity," Macalester is ranked 13th in the number of students receiving federal Pell Grants (financial aid which does not have to be repaid), and Macalester is ranked fifth in the number of “International Students.”
And finally, Macalester is once again part of the Princeton Review’s Best 361 College Guide appearing in seven categories, including “Best Quality of Life,” and new this year, “Lots of Race/Class Interaction.”
