Online registration for Reunion 2014 is open! Reunion is happening June 6-8. There will be Laughter Yoga, the all-campus picnic, a bus tour with Professor David Lanegran '63, faculty talks, a MacJazz alumni concert, and much, much more.

Ten teams participate in Macathon 2014

Photo
Alumni judges selected Macathon's three winning teams. Error 404 was awarded first place for making cOBO, a buying and selling service geared toward colleges.

Macalester held its second-ever overnight hackathon and start-up competition February28-March 1. Ten student teams participated and presented the tech-enabled products and services they created to a panel of nine alumni judges. Macathon was born from a conversation between two alumni, Per von Zelowitz '94 and Seth Levine '94, who continue to champion the event.

Macalester's Renee Jordan '14 and Hunter Hedenberg '16 competed at the NCAA Division III Region 1 Diving Meet at Denison University in Granville, Ohio, and each performed very well, with Jordan automatically qualifying for nationals. The NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championship will take place in Indianapolis March 19-22.

Jordan placed second Friday on the 3-meter board. Her score was a Macalester all-time best 490.05. Hedenberg will dive at nationals if one of the regional qualifiers does not compete.

It's time to write MacMail to seniors

Photo

There's nothing quite like those last few weeks leading up to graduation. For seniors, it is a unique time for reflection, anticipation, and perhaps a bit of fear about their next steps. Help welcome the next generation of alumni and congratulate them on their accomplishments by sending MacMail. Find a postcard that depicts where you are writing from, jot down a note a Macalester senior would love to receive, and mail it to Macalester College, Alumni Relations, 1600 Grand Ave, St. Paul MN 55105 by Thursday, May 1. In the weeks leading up to graduation, we'll deliver MacMail to our seniors via the Student Post Office

Macbassador of the Month:
Jake Levy-Pollans '09

Photo

In recognition of the depth and breadth of his commitment to Macalester, Jake Levy-Pollans '09 is our Macbassador of the Month for March.

Levy-Pollans majored in political science and is now director of digital engagement for Wellstone Action. In addition to regularly attending Macalester events in the Twin Cities, Levy-Pollans is an enthusiastic and creative volunteer who contributes his time and talents to the college in a wide variety of roles. On top of serving as a class agent for the Annual Fund, over the past six months, he also spoke at a campus political science alumni event, hosted Chuck Green Fellows in his office, and co-chaired his 5-Year Reunion Planning Committee. He was also the first person to register for Reunion 2014.

"My experience at Mac was made so much richer because of the alumni I met, the networks I built, and the opportunities they gave me," said Levy-Pollans. "Why wouldn't I want to return the favor? There's a direct line between my experience as a Chuck Green Fellow junior year and the job I have today."

Please join us in congratulating Jake Levy-Pollans '09, our March Macbassador of the Month.
