What counts toward the class gift
All gifts for any purpose made to Macalester between June 1, 2005 and May 31, 2006 will count toward the class gift.
Your Annual Fund contribution counts. So do any additional gifts of cash or appreciated securities you might make to the endowment. Examples include establishing an endowed scholarship, or augmenting an already established under-funded scholarship. Gifts of $5,000 or more may also be spread out over five years.
Planned gifts, made previously and any time up until May 31, 2006 count too. These are gifts made through a will, trust or other instrument. Planned gifts carry with them significant tax and financial benefits, and often allow you to make a larger gift than you might have thought possible.
Here are some types of planned gifts you may wish to consider:
- Including Macalester in your will.
- Establishing a gift that provides you with lifetime income, such as a charitable gift annuity or charitable remainder trust.
- Naming Macalester as the beneficiary of a retirement plan or life insurance policy.
- Funding a gift with real estate.
