
Upon graduating from Macalester College in 1956, Chuck moved to Bertha, Minn., to manage his father’s business. During this time in 1956, Chuck married Marilyn (Skoglund) of Eagle Bend, Minn. In 1959 he returned to college to acquire credits to enable him to teach high school social studies and history.
He taught at Wabasso, Minn., for 2 years and then at Simley High School in Inver Grove Heights, Minn., for 17 years. During this time, Chuck received his master’s degree in education and coached tennis and golf at Simley.
He was very active in politics and was a member of the State Teachers Retirement Committee and served as department chairman. He enjoyed the sport of horse racing and wrote a column for a newspaper and taught a community education class on the subject, “Win, Place, Show.” He loved music and played the clarinet in the Minnesota State Band and several other volunteer bands. He joined the 451st Army Band and was a member for many years.
He left teaching in 1979 and became a tax shelter annuity sales representative for VALIC until his retirement.
He enjoyed spending time with his four children and was present at all four of their weddings. He spent time at five of his eight grandkid’s sports/activities before he passed on. He loved playing golf, travel, watching sports, his music and history.
He enjoyed summers up at the cabin on Lake Miltona in Alexandria, Minn., and after retiring, he enjoyed spending the cold winter month of January in South Padre, Texas, with his wife, kids and a few of his grandkids.
