Our best memories of Chic are singing with the Par-Four Quartet (see photos in scrapbook).

The campus was electric the Monday night the quartet sang on the Arthur Godfrey Talent Show in New York. They tied for first and sang all week on the TV show. Campus television sets were all tuned in.

The Par Four also sang in the Macalester Tartan Troupers, an eclectic group of singers, magicians, artists and others who appeared at many on- and off-campus events.

The quartet sang for many years in the Winter Carnival after graduation.

Chic’s cousin, Tom Tjornhom, also sang in the quartet, doing many of their arrangements. Chic’s brother Jim, is celebrating his 50-year reunion at Macalester this year.

Chic and his wife, Harriet, lived in Montana in his later years.

Reflections from Jim Tjornhom

My brother, Chic, was a fun-loving guy. He was five years older than me. He attended Augsburg for less than one year, went to National Guard photographic school and transferred to Macalester in 1952, thereby becoming a ’56 classmate. He served in the Minnesota National Guard for 15 years and operated Chic Photos in St. Paul. He and Harriet moved to Montana in 1987. Music played a major role in his life. He was one of the original members of the Par Four Quartet and belonged to several choruses. Chic died in 1999 at the age of 70. He is truly missed.
