Stretching our minds
Dr. Turck was an internationalist and the world has yet to catch up with his thinking. Our minds were stretched by socialist Norman Thomas. Although a Presbyterian school, David White stretched our minds to show us that there was room in Presbyterian theology for Bridey Murphy and reincarnation. [ed. Bridey Murphy is the name of a woman Virginia Tighe claimed to be in a previous life.]

Life-changing classroom discussions
As an off-campus student, I missed a lot of the "campus capers." The images that pop into my mind are of the classroom discussions. In classes with David White, Hugo Thompson and Beth Leinbach, I began to develop skills in critical thinking. In Arnie Holtz's Ed. Psych. class, we felt tormented like lab rats until we began to understand the concepts of "aspiration" and "motivation." In Dr. Armajani's class, I learned about the different cultures and religions of the world, an interest that has deepened over the passing years. Roger Blakely stretched our minds with all that great literature and poetry. To top it all off, I had the good fortune of two semesters with "Wild Bill" Thompson, whose style of teaching was to force feed us the great classics of music and art along with the literature of the Romantic and Victorian periods. That was my launching pad into art—where I am today.

Thomson's Masterpieces of World Literature
When going into Dr. Thompson's Masterpieces of World Literature, one never knew if there would be a test, a lecture or if we’d listen to a symphony all hour. One of the best courses I took at Mac.
