Dorm Life (Women)

Dressing up for dinner
Do others from Bigelow and Wallace Halls remember signing out for evening events and signing back in when we returned from parties which might have been a little bit too merry? And “dressing” for dinner in the dorm, with heels and hose and dresses, rather than jeans and sneakers?

Sneaking in after hours
The event that stands out in my mind is when I and three or four other girls sneaked into Bigelow Hall after midnight on a Saturday night. We had gone to a party and couldn’t possibly get in on time. So, we arranged with a friend to unlock the door for us at 1:00 a.m. We all ran as fast as we could to our rooms and were terrified that we would be found out. We never were. Those were the “good old days”.

Liver… It’s what’s for dinner
Dare I mention that I learned to LOVE eating liver because they served it every Friday evening (or you could have Salisbury steak) in the dining room in Bigelow Hall. Can you believe that? It is a fact. I also remember hearing the bell in our dorm room calling us down to the dining room. I would never appreciate that delightful service until I became the “dining room” and I had to ring the bell. We had about six or eight at each table and we were SERVED. Fun, fun times.

A tale of two guinea pigs
Pierre and Pe'pe came to live in Room 368 in Bigelow Hall when some terrible science experiment in the immunology lab went amiss and they required some temporary housing. Judy Chalberg and I did our best to keep "the pigs" well-fed, comfortable and a well-kept secret from Mrs. Carlson.  Unfortunately the secret leaked out, perhaps it was the aroma  or the steady stream of "guinea pig groupies". Anyway the eviction notice was given and the farewell party was planned. And then one sad day Pierre and Pe'pe were gone.  But, I still remember when…
