Tough times in Kirk
Money was tight during my college days. It meant cooking all dinners (canned stew, canned meat balls and canned hash) in our Kirk Hall dorm room during my sophomore year. Hitchhiking home on weekends with a Stillwater sign taped to the suitcase saved on many bus fares. At a Kirk Hall pay phone, I never paid for a call to my girlfriend Lila—one ring followed by a hang up returned my dime and signaled Lila to return my call to the pay phone.
