Learning to sing in French, German, & Italian
Where else in the United States did they have a language program for music majors??? This was a unique program and singing the French, German and Italian folk songs (and even a little opera) with "Herr" Lichtenstein (German teacher teaching us German and French) and Mr. Cavazos (Spanish teacher teaching us Italian) was a crazy and fun, but very valuable experience!!

An Irish gag?
They say "the Irish gave the pipes to the Scots and the Scots haven't caught on to the joke yet". I always thought the pipes were beautiful and stirring and I still do.

"Pappy" Jensen's filing cabinet
Who could forget "Pappy" Jensen's music appreciation classes when he kept going back to his filing cabinet for a "nip"!!! Would never had enjoyed Wagner's operas so much without his "background" information.

Falling off the risers
I was practice teaching at a Mechanic Arts High School and we were preparing a concert for pre-Easter. The weather turned hot and the big football players were fainting off the top of the risers. I had them all lined up in the hall with heads between their knees. The girls were fine.

Everyone felt included
Ian Morton never forgot a face and made each student in his classes feel like such an important part of the group! The musical experiences of singing in large works, and preparing for our recording of Daphnis and Chloe with the Minneapolis Symphony under the direction of Antal Dorati, will always be fond memories of Macalester.
