Pondering in Macville
I remember all the philosophical brain-storming sessions we had with our friends in Macville (Vet's Village). We were sophomores and idealistic. We agreed that if we ever made $10,000 dollars a year we would be content

Then there was the summer that Ron Hinn and I painted Macville. We would stand on ladders and from that lofty position, ponder the questions of life.

Starting Mac Vets
I helped organize and was the first President of the Mac Vets Club. All eight to ten of us were Korean Vets. I remember the "bull sessions" and "beer parties" we had. Most of us were married and lived in the Veteran's Housing (Tar Paper Shacks) on the end of the campus. A housing opportunity we were most appreciative of. Rent for our two-bedroom unit was $42.50 a month, including heat, electric and gas for the kitchen stove. Life was great! We were all "broke" and worked odd jobs to supplement our G.I. benefits. The oddest job I had was "Professional Pallbearer" for funerals at the nearby Lutheran church where the average parishoner was probably over 80! We got $5.00 each!

Memories from a Vet
I started at Mac in 1950. After my sophomore year, I went into the service, returning in 1954—a little older and a bit wiser. I have good memories of classes taught by the no-nonsense Dr. Forest Young in Economics and congenial Professors Beedon and Berg in Journalism. Also remember the good times playing hockey and the Vets Club activities. And of course, that’s where I met my future wife, Kay Crampton.
