Highlights of 50 years...

• Graduated from Macalester in June 1957
• Married Diane Johnson Hempel ’59
• Raised three wonderful daughters throughout the Midwest... living in Chicago, Cleveland and Minneapolis
• Worked for General Mills for 11 years after graduation and then sold residential real estate for the duration
• Enjoyed travels to Hawaii, Europe and throughout the US
• Participated in community affairs, political elections and church activites
• Found joy in his six amazing grandchildren

Bart had four of his best years at Mac. He loved the college, the friends he made and all of the opportunities that a liberal arts college has to offer. In February of 2003, he became ill.  It wasn't until March 27 that he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He died 13 days later in our home, on April 9, 2003. Being a man of great faith, made it easier for all of us as we watched him pass so quickly. Our almost 45 years together, were at times marvelous, at times challenging, at times difficult, but through it all we are left with the memories. We are choosing to hold on to the good ones. Godspeed to all of the members of the Class of 1957 as you continue on your journey!
