Passed away February 20, 2005.
Reflections from Eugene (Russ) Pittenger.
Lorella (Lory) Jean Hagen and I married August 5, 1961, in Bismarck, North Dakota. She had two sons, Robert and Brian, as well as three grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew and Amanda, with another expected in March 2007.
After graduating from Macalester College in 1957, Lory taught kindergarten in Great Falls, Mont., San Diego, Calif., and Bismarck, N.D. In later years, she volunteere3d in schools and libraries. She loved her time at Macalester and made friends there that lasted her lifetime.
Lory died February 20, 2005, in the care of her husband, after lengthy medical difficulties. She was loved by all who knew her. One friend wrote of her, “Lory is in my thoughts often and in my heart always. She was an example to all of us, always having a loving, forgiving and nonjudgmental heart for each of us. Lory showed me more than any other person I have ever known, the true meaning of what it is to be a child of God. She gave and gave, always supportive and nurturing each of us with her tenderness and calm ways. I am privileged and blessed to have been her friend and to have been included in her earthly family where she wrapped her arms around so many of us and urged us to keep the course and press on. She is sorely missed. She will never be forgotten. Her love lives on in each of us.”
Her granddaughter, Amanda, recently wrote about Lory, that she was the most significant and important person in her life. She is loved and remembered by all of her family.
Her charitable interests included the American Cancer Society and Heart Fund. She contributed to needy children in Chili for much of her life.
