Reflections from friend and classmate, Sandy Hill ’57.
Marv Hofius, our senior Class President, was a natural leader and one of the first of our Class to be hired by a major national firm, IBM. During his senior year he was also a member of the Judiciary Board and co-chair along with Sharon Mueller of Religion in Life Week — which welcomed Dr. James H. Robinson, pastor of the Church of the Master in Harlem, N.Y., to campus. He was a member of Westminster Fellowship and The Athenaean Society. Many classmates will remember him punching our meal cards in the Cafeteria in the Student Union as a student cashier. Marv was a quiet, hardworking, bright, personable, ethical, and unassuming guy to whom everyone could turn for guidance and support. He gained respect among classmates because of all of these attributes.
A Business Administration major from Red Lake Falls, Minn., following graduation he moved with his wife Elaine to Milwaukee, Wis., where he died of cancer, leaving a two-year-old son, Mark. A memorial scholarship in his honor was established in 1961 by an anonymous donor and classmates.
