Reflections from Laura Brown.
Many adjectives could describe Willie. He was very proud to be a graduate of Macalester. Willie loved family and family loved him. He was very friendly, kind, and considerate, and also philosophical. His favorite professor at Mac was Dr. Mitau. Willie was a talented musician and played alto and tenor saxophones. He played jazz, big band, and ethnic music. He maintained a close relationship with college friends, James Bransford ’57, William (Bill) Goins ’56 and others. Willie was good-natured, humorous and could be serious at times. I can’t forget Nancy and Tom Tjornhom (’56 and ’54). When Willie was playing a tiring and late gig, he was never too tired to attend Mass. He had a time to meditate, which I learned was his private time. He went on a retreat during the fall at Demontreville.
