I will attend our 50-Year Reunion this coming June, for which certainly, I am looking forward. Permit me to give you an overall view of my past fifty years, after I left Macalester.

In 1963, I married Eugenia, my wife of 44 years now, in Chicago, Ill., a graduate from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., with a degree in history. She has been teaching history for the past 28 years at Fontbonne Academy in Milton, Mass. We have a son, Paul, who graduated in electrical engineering from Northeastern University in Boston and got married last year — no children yet. A married daughter, Anastasia, who graduated from Suffolk University in Boston with degrees in economics and marketing — she gave us three beautiful grandsons Michael (13), Stephan (11), and Thomas (8). All reside in the Boston area. Finally we have another married daughter Maxine who graduated from Northeastern University in Boston with degrees in sociology and jurisprudence. We acquired from her a beautiful granddaughter Eleni Stella, 6 months old.  They reside in Shakopee, Minn. This is my legacy, the members of my family for whom I am very proud, the way they are proud of me.

I was engaged in medical research for several years prior to going into clinical medicine and published many scientific papers during that time.

After graduating from Macalester in June 1957, I accepted a mathematics teaching position in the Aurora Public Schools in Aurora, Minn., located on the Iron Range in Northern Minnesota. I met my husband in Aurora and we were married in 1960 and I continued to work until 1963 when my first child was born. During the next seven years I was a stay-at-home mom and substitute teacher. I had three children, a girl and two boys. In 1971, my husband died suddenly and I went back to teaching full time in the Aurora-Hoyt Lakes School District.

In the early 1990's our school district consolidated and became known as the Mesabi East School District. In 1996 I retired from Mesabi East after 30-plus years of teaching math, physics, and computer science. During my teaching years I was the coach for our Math League team and had the opportunity to attend summer coaches' conferences at Macalester.

After retiring, I have been very actively involved with volunteer work.  I served for six years on the North St. Louis County Habitat for Humanity Board and continue to volunteer and work with them.  I serve on our local Library Board; volunteer at the Salvation Army Kitchens once a month; am active with our retired employees group and do a lot of volunteer work for my church and for our public library. Playing bridge, knitting and reading have always been favorite pass times. The “Tech. Age” brings new fun with my digital camera, my computer and geocaching. But probably the most enjoyable part of retirement is all the traveling I have done. My friends joke that I am part of "the trip of the month" plan. Friends and I have enjoyed going to elderhostels and do several of them each year. In 1997, I went with the Macalester Alumni Travel Program to England and Scotland... a wonderful trip. Travels have also taken me to all of the Scandinavian countries, Russia, Austria, Germany, Amsterdam, Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. As soon as I finish one trip I am busy planning the next one.

I would be remiss not to mention the enjoyment I get from visiting and being with my seven grandchildren (two boys and five girls).  Two families live in the Twin Cities and one in southern Indiana so seeing them involves more travel.

I walk each day and have coffee with a group of local ladies ranging in age from 60 to 86. They are a wonderful and diverse group who like to keep up with the world around us.
