After graduation, from 1957 to 1967, I worked two years for the Quakers in Philadelphia, then studied and taught French language and literature at the following schools:
- Earned my Masters degree in French from Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vermont in 1965;
- Instructor in French at Luther College, Decorah, Iowa (1961-1964);
- and Instructor in French at Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Indiana (1964-1967).
From 1967 to the present I have lived abroad: the first two years in Algeria working for the American Friends Service Committee (June 1967-June 1969) in a community development program. Since then, in Paris, I worked with the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) connected with UNESCO where my husband worked until his death in 1988. I went back to school full time in September 1989 at New York University in Paris and then at the Université de Paris II in November 1998. I continue to do study and research in the field of 15th Century French language and literature.
