The notorious Section 7 icicle
Jack Stuckmayer ’57 was one of the more colorful Kirk Hall characters during our sojourn in that facility and I recall two specific instances that were notable among a myriad of possibilities. The first was the construction, with the help of several others, of a large icicle to hang down from the Section 7 window overlooking the arch to the gymnasium. A garbage can with a hole punctured in the bottom, hoses and clamps (no doubt lifted from the chemistry lab) were organized to permit a slow drip from the window to the ground below. After the passage of considerable time, the icicle became gargantuan in size, thus prompting the St. Paul Pioneer Press to come and take a picture of one of the project engineers (whose name I can't recall) and the object in question. The picture was then published. It clearly demonstrated our class's ability to go beyond simple tree-hugging exercises to winter-hugging exercises.

Dining in the cafeteria
The cafeteria will be forever sketched in my mind. Especially those mystery meats and dishes that still go unnamed and continue to remain a point of discussion during reunions.

How’d they get away?
There was at least one time when some Kirk hall residents got a bunch of newspapers, crumpled them up and completely filled the dorm room of the student in the room next to mine. The room was so full of crumpled up newspaper that the student could hardly open the door. I believe the students who were responsible had climbed out the window after filling the room from top to bottom with crumpled up newspapers.

A room with a view
I believe there was more than one instance when fellow Kirk Hall residents would take all the furniture out of the room one of their fellow students also staying in Kirk and set his room up under the Bell Tower. I have no idea who was responsible, how or when they got the furniture out of the respective room and under the Bell Tower. I remember at least one time when the student was actually sitting in a chair when his furniture was under the Bell Tower.
