It's probably no surprise that after being editor of the Mac Weekly I went into the newspaper business. I covered everything from crime and politics to medicine and breaking news at several newspapers, eventually landing at the Orlando Sentinel, where I met my wonderful husband, who is an editor there.

After a stint in communications at a medical practice, I now am editor of a book publishing company here in Orlando making travel coffee table books, which fulfills my travel craving. We are in the process of adopting a little girl from China, and then more recently had the unexpected adoption of a sweet little 5-year-old boy named Adam, a distant relative of mine. He has been with us seven months now. We are now in the process of moving to make room for his little sister, which may or may not interfere with a trip to Minneapolis. But we'll be up at some point — our son Adam is from there, and will be visiting his grandparents (mine are still there, too).

Let's see, we also have two “schnoodles” who are awesome and I love running — have done some marathons and am now doing triathlons. I lead a triathlon program for beginners called “TRI it now,” and just became a certified EZ8 running coach. I really want to learn Chinese this summer, before we go to China, and absolutely love being a mom after spending about a decade thinking I didn't want to be one!

My Mac Memories:
Late late nights getting the Mac Weekly out. Snowball fights (being from Florida that was always a big deal). Rowing on the Mississippi River. Green Mill pizza. My Asian history class — and learning about China's "One Child Policy" — and knowing back then that some day I would adopt a little girl from China. Lucky for me, my husband wanted to, too!

Life has treated me very well over the last 14 years.

I am getting married on May 26 in St. Paul to the lovely Heather Peterson. I am very much looking forward to this — my lucky seventh — marriage. Heather and I have spent nearly every spare hour of time over the last two years remodeling my house so I am excited to just kick back and figure out how this still 20-something guy can fit into his role as a married man.

I have been a park ranger for the National Park Service on the Mississippi River for 10 years. I coordinate our Volunteers-In-Parks program and love inspiring others to become stewards for one of the world's great rivers.

I operate a small business, GrassRoots Restoration, that helps incorporate native plants into traditional urban landscapes.  Be sure to stop by the new Macalester Prairie project just south of Olin-Rice under the wind turbine.  This project was started from seed a couple of years ago and is just now starting to look like a prairie.

My Mac Memories:

  • TuTh Basketball League with C-Note, the Hutch and the Wel.
  • Witnessing the debauchery of 2nd Doty as a first year.
  • The ill-fated season of Mac Tennis Doubles with Tommy D.
  • The Ibsen counter 'protest' to the Gulf War protests.
  • The now late Paul Wellstone speaking outside Kagin.
  • Sports Talk Sunday, “Your Sunday Sports Connection,” on WMCN 91.7.
  • Kirk basement parties and the crazy dance.
  • My daily three-hour buffet meals at Kagin eating with four different groups of friends. I still can't gain weight!
  • Winters with snow.
